A tall evergreen tree with drooping branchlets forming a large, rounded crown. The leaves are reduced to tiny scales on bronze green cladodes, (modified stems that can photosynthesize) forming a needle like appearance.
Plants are either male or female, with male trees bearing solitary flower spikes on the ends of the branches, while female flowers are reddish brown and borne in clusters. The male trees of this species flower prolifically and the tree becomes covered in grown spikes from winter to early spring.
One of the best features of this plant is the soft rustling sounds which it produces during strong winds and small breezes - very relaxing!
