One of the most handsome Australian tropical trees, the Tree Waratah has a spreading habit.
It has adult leaves that are deep green glossy, elliptical shaped. The juvenille leaves tend to lobed with rusty hairs.
In winter to spring it has spectacular firey orange/red clusters of tubulate flowers up to 75mm across - displayed in the leaf axils towards the ends of the branches.
Although a rainforest tree it will grow well as far south as Sydney - where it is known to flower well.
In the wild it will grow to 25-30m but in cultivation it will tend to be less than 8m.
