Allocasuarina luehmanni or the Bull Oak is a tall evergreen, Australian native tree that is well suited to semi-arid conditions and has thick ascending branches.
The leaves are tiny scales lining a blackish green cladobe, (a modified stem that can photosynthesise) forming a needle like appearance.
Plants are either male or female with male trees bearing solitary flower spikes on the ends of the branches, while femaie flowers are reddish brown and borne in clusters.
Its bark is distinctly fissured (rough). One of the best features of this plant is the soft rustling sounds which it produces during strong winds and small breezes - very relaxing!
However do not plant it near a lawn area as it continually drops spent growth, building up a useful mat of mulch, but not great for the lawn.
