Abies amabilis 'Spreading Star' is a cultivar of the normally rather tall Pacific Silver Fir that grows to be a low and spreading mound format - not developing a leader as in other varieties.
It has attractive lush-green, long needles with silvery undersides and a somewhat fluffy appearance. The horizontal branches appear as layers which add to the appeal as a garden specimen.
In spring the fresh green new growth provides a good looking contrast with the darker, older foliage.
A good choice for larger rock gardens in cooler locations.
