Brassica rapa chinensis otherwise known as Pak Choy (or (Choi) is an annual vegetable that grows quickly providing crisp white stalks and nutritious green leaves that are very good eating.
They feature loose rosettes of mid green leaves that splay outwards, supported on stout, thick, white stalks.
As with many oriental greens, the stalks are as much prized as are the green leaves, being a superb ingredient for stir fries.
Bok Choy is very easy to grow with seeds being sown directly to the soil and thinned out as they germinate, or sow in seed trays to prick out seedlings for re-planting.
It is advisable to stagger planting out however as this variety goes to seed quite quickly and you'll not want many plants coming to maturity all at once.
