Lysimachia clethroides or Gooseneck Loosestrife is a, erect, hardy and vigorous, rhizomatous perennial with smooth, pointed, narrow oval, mid-green leaves that are paler green on the undersides. Foliage turns to russets and gold in autumn.
Dense tapered racemes of tiny but showy white flowers are produced on terminal spikes that curve, rather like a gooseneck, hence the name.
When in full bloom they make a wonderful sight, all goosenecks curving in unison, looking rather like a troupe of tiny ballerinas.
They go well in informal garden settings as well as close to water features and look particularly good in larger drifts.
