Agave montana, or the Mountain Agave is a neat and relatively compact Agave that is very suitable for courtyard, gravel, xeriscape, succulent and Mediterranean garden designs.
This evergreen perennial is very sculptural, forming a rosette of fleshy and erect, mid green, spined leaves that feature a red edge to accentuate the shape.
Their elegant shape is accentuated by the whitish bloom on the leaf undersides which retain the pattern of the leaf that was formed beneath it, making for an interesting pattern.
Each plant will flower just once, pushing up a tall spike up to four metres high looking like a giant asparagus.
The spike has side branches which carry the brilliant yellow flowers at their tips.
These are plants to locate away from humans and pets as their spikes can easily inflict injury when just passing by.
