Aucuba japonica variegata otherwise known as the Gold Dust Tree or Japanese Laurel is a compact shrub with brilliantly marked, large, thick, soft, glossy leaves on yellow to green, woody stems.
If plants of both sexes are planted in close proximity then red fruit (females only) is produced which remain on the plant throughout winter.
It makes a great background in a shrubbery - but will not take strong sun at all.
Very good for those difficult, shady corners and in dappled light under trees.
