Allium christophii is a perennial bulb with broad green, shiny leaves from which grows a spike that is topped with distinctive violet to mauve crown shaped flowers up to 35 cms across.
Each umbel is made up of many star shaped flowers that turn black as the seeds ripen.
It exudes an onion odour which is good to repel insects and therefore makes it a good companion plant - particularly to roses.
