The Petunia is perhaps the most cultivated 'summer colour' plant, with every nursery, garden centre and supermarket now having trays of them on display simply for their amazing colour impact.
This annual, herbaceous summer bedding plant has soft, hairy, grey/green, smooth-edged leaves and trumpet-shaped flowers of intense colour.
Petunias sold today are largely hybrids and come in an enormous array of colours and forms which may be ruffled, single or double, small or large.
We love them for their colour and their ease of maintenance. They can withstand intense heat and do need a fair amount of direct sun each day - though you will need to keep them watered, especially in the heat of summer.
