Agave americana or the Century Plant forms a spectacular rosette of stiff, thick grey green spiney leaves and makes for a great feature in medium sized to larger gardens.
After about ten years growth it throws up a central spike that is up to 6m high with masses of yellow flowers on small sub branches.
Like salmon that spawn and die, the Agave dies after flowering once, but new suckers or offsets appear to start the cycle again.
