Prunus persica or the flowering peach is a small deciduous tree grown for its spectacular blossom in spring that matures to the juicy peach fruit or nectarine.
It has narrow, mid-green, lanceolate, veined leaves which appear in spring after the blossom.
The flowers are one of springtime's great spectacles being produced in profusion, either solitary or in pairs along the branches. Flowers tend to be mainly pinks, whites and to reds, with some even being stripy.
The resultant fruits are very juicy with whitish to yellow flesh, a delicate aroma and either downy skin in the case of the Peach or smooth in the case of the Nectarine
These lovely small trees make a perfect lawn specimen and provide floral colour to herald spring.
