Brachychiton populneus or Kurrajong is a bushy evergreen tree with lustrous dark-green leaves. Its dense foliage cover makes it an excellent shade tree and it is often seen in rural settings to provide shade for cattle and sheep. It is also often seen as a street tree due to its attractive foliage and shape.
It also produces an abundance of cream/brown saucer-shaped flowers that are speckled with brown or red that look very much like the hats of the fabled 'Gum-Nut Kids'. The flowers appear from late spring through to early autumn.
It can be semi-deciduous in early summer
