Pyrus calleryana is an attractive deciduous tree, much valued for its autumn colour and lovely white flowers.
The broad domed canopy make it a great shade or avenue tree. Glossy dark green leaves turn a rich purple/red in autumn, while spring brings lovely clusters of white flowers borne on spurs.
The small round fruit of this pear is inedible and very hard.
These trees are very tough which is why they are often used as street trees. They tolerate poor soil, heat, drought and wind.
