This Australian native shrub has an open rounded habit with many erect branches covered in small, dull green, slightly hairy leaves.
During spring it bears masses of beautiful rose-pink bell-shaped flowers. The black centre of the flowers is hidden inside the pendulous flowers, it is this black centre that gives the plant its name.
There is a variety 'Alba" that has white flowers.
This is a very attractive and hardy native that can be used in pots or in a well-drained spot in the garden. It prefers to be protected from hot westerly sun.
