Davidsonia pruriens, Davidson Plum is a medium sized rainforest tree growing to around 12m tall.
It has large compound leaves and small deep pink/ red flowers followed by plum like fruit that is too sour to be eaten raw but make great jams and preserves.
The decorative foliage and flowers make this an attractive specimen, while the fruits are an added bonus.
And this is a plant that produces its flowers and fruit directly on the trunk - quite a novelty.
The fruits are ripe when the flesh is a rich red colour and they will often drop once ripe - the fruits tend to survive the fall without undue bruising so foraging from the rainforest floor is a good way to harvest.
