Euphorbia amygdaloides is a pretty perennial that bears attractive button-shaped dark green leaves along reddish stems.
If trimmed correctly, this perennial will form a dense bun of foliage.
In spring, tall clusters of flowers are borne at the ends of the stems.
The flowers themselves are relatively insignificant, but yellowish green bracts surround them.
These bracts create an attractive contrast in tone between the yellowish bracts and the dark green foliage.
Varieties include:
Euphorbia amygdaloides 'Robbiae' - has broader darker leaves, less showy flower heads and it spreads by rhizomes. It's much more vigorous, it can even become invasive in some circumstances.
Euphorbia amygdaloides 'Purpurea'- has reddish purple leaves, reddish stems and small yellow flowers surrounded by yellow bracts.
