Magnolia x campbellii is a magnificent, deciduous tree with a spreading dome of dense mid green leaves that drop in autumn.
It bears delicately fragrant, soft pink-rose coloured, cup-shaped flowers on leafless branches in spring. The flowers are spectacular and this is a particularly vigorous Magnolia species.
It is often multiple stemmed, with grey to tan coloured bark. The leaves are leathery and elliptic to obovate and bear fine hairs when first emerged.
Although a frost hardy tree, its lovely flower buds are not and many a late frost has spoiled these quite splendid flowers.
