A fast growing perennial herb with reddish stems and serrated, crinkled, deep green, heart shaped foliage that is tinted purple and is pungently fragrant. It is commonly used in cooking and its leaves are used to make mint sauce, mint jelly and to add flavour to boiled potatoes, peas as well as fruit drinks and deserts.
