Templetonia retusa or Cockie's Tongues is an small to medium sized Australian native shrub that comes from the coastal strip from South to Western Australia.
It has a rounded but upright habit and the leaves are blue green and leathery with a blunt shaped tip and are around 30mm long by 20mm wide.
Large, pea-like flowers, around 30mm long, appear from the leaf axis over a long period from winter to spring and they come in shades of red, white, pink and yellow.
The flowers are attractive to honey eating birds and insects and mature to oblong seed pods.
These are popular natives for cultivation being flexible in their requirements, handling dry conditions well but also tolerating more humid conditions as often found on the East Coast of Australia
