Echinocactus grusonii or Golden Barrel Cactus is a spectacular plant that makes an excellent feature and has, as a result, become very popular in dry, rock or xeriscape gardens.
It has a single globe shaped body, that is pale green in colour with vertical ribs sprouting yellow radial spines from areoles.
In summer the mature specimens produce a circle of bright yellow flowers from a crown at the top of the plant.
The longevity of flowers will depend on the amount of sun the plant is receiving - the flowers last longer in full sun.
These majestic cactus become more eye-catching as they age, making an increasingly powerful impact as they grow larger.
