A popular small perennial herbaceous plant with feathery mid green foliage that emits a fruity camphor-like odour and has historically been used as an air freshener.
It has tiny yellow flowers, but is largely grown as an interesting and textured foliage plant with the added benefit of being highly moth repellant when dried and hung in wardrobes.
It goes very well with other sun-loving plants like rosemary, lavender, sage and basil - all of which when brushed as you pass will emit their distinctive odours.
Its other use is to grow in pots on a patio to act as a mosquito repellant.
In Southern Europe the young bitter shoots and leaves are used in brewing of beer.
In some parts of Italy the leaves are used to flavour cakes and sweets and also to make tea.
