Brownea grandiceps is a slow growing, small tree, with stout branches that is well suited to tropical regions.
It has elongated, pinnate foliage that starts like quite speckled but matures to a more consistent overall deep green as it ages.
They also produce spectacular, globular inflorescences that contain many bright crimson to scarlet flowers with protruding stamen which dangle beneath the foliage and can be up to 20cms in diameter.
They are very attractive to birds, butterflies and other nectar seeking creatures.
