Averrhoa carambola or the Star Fruit Tree is an attractive, small, bushy evergreen tree with a short-trunk, dropping branches and a domed crown.
It has soft, mid green, ovate shaped leaves which are smooth on top and hairy underneath.
The reddish to purple, downy, bell-shaped flowers are arranged in small clusters on the ends of the branches.
The greeny yellow fruits are very distinctive being star shaped in cross section and have a thin, waxy skin. When ripe they are juicy and have a crisp texture with the taste varying from sour to mildly sweet.
