This herbaceous perennial is native to the highlands of Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras.
The wonderful deep blue flowers produced on stems rising above the leaf base make it a good choice for borders and edges.
Upright stems grow from creeping root stock, in warmer climates these can be left in the ground in frost susceptible area they should be dug up and replanted after the threat of frost has diminished.
The leaves are difference to most salvia, they are bright green, glossy and triangular in shape. The underside of the leaves are covered with tiny glands, these release a strong aroma when the leaves are crushed
The deep blue two lipped flowers have tiny hairs on the outside and emerge from green, purple tinged funnel shaped calyces. The flowers are borne in pairs along the upper portion of the stems.
