This is a group of shrubby perennials with large, brightly coloured flowers that have long been popular in cultivation, especially when grown in garden beds and pots.
They have an upright to spreading growth habit and the rounded to lobed leaves often have quite a pungent scent when crushed. The umbel-like clusters of trumpet shaped flowers vary in colour from whites and pinks through to reds, purples and oranges.
The main flowering time is Spring and Summer however in frost free areas the plants can continue to produce some flowers into Autumn and Winter. If the first year the flowers are little disappointing don't worry, cut them back in winter and wait for a fresh new growth and flowers in Spring.
