Aquilegia chrysantha or Golden Columbine is a clump forming perennial. It is one of the most hardy Aquilegia and will tolerate heat and sun as well as frost.
The deeply lobed, fern-like leaves form a domed base. In late spring and early summer the spectacular flowers appear on branching stems above the foliage.
These graceful flowers are a golden yellow in colour. Both the central cup of petals and wide base of sepals with slender spurs are the same colour although the petals tend to be slightly lighter.
This species is taller than many of the other Aquilegia with flower stems growing as tall as 1m. These showy flowers are a delightful addition to any cottage style garden border.
