Hibiscus boryanus is a small tree or tall shrub with ascending branches that today is rather rare, though it was used in the original breeding of the now famous Hibiscus rosa-sinensis.
It bears small flowers in shades of orange and red with typically yellow throats and a very erect, protruding fused stamen. The flowers appear throughout the year with a rest often occurring in mid summer.
Although not seen much in cultivation, it is easy to grow and (for a tropical plant) is quite hardy, though not frost hardy.
