Sabal domingensis, or the Hispaniola Palmetto vis a rather stout, medium sized fan palm that is largely grown to harvest the foliage to make sombreros.
The fan shaped leaves make a crown at the top of the trunk and are a dull green colour with deep incisions.
It produces flower stalks that are around one metre long and are held within the crown of leaves, they mature to black seeds.
This is a very hardy palm that can survive drought conditions and cold winter nights.
