Begonia scharffii is a frost tender, fibrous-rooted, evergreen perennial shrubby plant with 25cm long, tapered, bronzy green leaves that have red veins above while the undersides are completely red.
The stems and leaves are covered in tiny hairs and as a result you should try not to wet the leaves when watering as the hairs trap the water and encourage fungal problems.
From winter through to springtime they produce panicles of soft white flowers that are around 5cms across and have prominent, erect yellow stamen and pinkish hairs on the back. it has been known to flower almost all year round in Victoria.
