Maianthemum racemosum is a rhizomatous, deciduous, flowering perennial from North America that originates from moist and shady woodland locations.
It forms a clump and has attractive dark green, elliptical leaves that unfurl from erect, cane-like stems.
Fluffy cream to white flowers up to 15cms long appear in terminal panicles or branched racemes in late spring to early summer. They mature to green berries that turn red as they age.
The leaves will turn to shades of yellow before falling in autumn.
This is a useful border plant providing a good background to low borders whilst generating displays of very attractive flowers to top it off.
