Eremurus himalaicus are herbaceous, perennials with rosettes of strap-shaped leaves, but their crowning glory are the dense racemes of miniature white star-shaped flowers that clad erect stems in summer.
These towering flower stems look rather like huge bottle brushes (household items, not Calistemon) and make a superb addition to the rear of mixed borders. Along with Delphinium and Hollyhocks, there are not many plants that fill this area of height, so Eremurus are a very useful addition to the plantsman's armoury.
The white flowers are followed by large round seedpods that bear winged seeds.
They have fleshy roots that radiate outwards, rather like an octopus.
Perfect for cottage gardens, gravel gardens, Mediterranean gardens as well as banks and slopes.
