Camellia yunnanensis is an evergreen domed tree that is usually pruned as a shrub. Grown for its very attractive bark that is cinnamon in colour with a smooth texture and its autumn display of white flowers.
When pruned as shrub it has a dense habit that and the small glossy dark green leaves.
From late summer to early winter it bears masses of really pretty, slightly fragrant, single white flowers with prominent deep yellow stamens.
They prefer semi-shade but will grow happily with early morning sun and afternoon shade.
They tolerate moderate winds, though if planting in an area with strong winds they will need some protection.
They can be grown as feature trees, pruned as shrubs and used as hedging.
Generally they like mild and humid conditions.
