Hymenocallis narcissiflora or the Ismene Lily is a plant with a star shaped array of strap shaped foliage surrounding the central flower spikes that hold the flower head 60 cms aloft.
The flowers which appear in early summer are extremely showy being pure white, spidery and most ornate.
The Convolvulus-like white flower has six petal extensions that fold elegantly backwards and the stamen are even longer, shooting out like a firework.
Best suited to tropical and sub-tropical gardens, though they will grow in sheltered conditions in Sydney and other East Coast locations.
Blooms last long indoors and are fragrant.
