Mentha piperita or Peppermint is a hardy, spreading perennial herb with pungent, oval, serrated, mid green to reddish foliage.
It bears purple flowers in spring and spreads via its root system and runners.
The leaves have tiny glands which hold the pungent oils for which it is prized.
Good for infusions or as an inhalant.
A deservedly popular occupant of many a herb garden that is easy to keep, though you'll need to keep it contained so as to not spread uncontrolled.
