Pumpkin Kent: This very popular green and yellow striped pumpkin with rich yellow flesh originated in Japan.
It is very tolerant of hot conditions found in Australia's inland areas.
It has very lovely firm tasty flesh and is a moderately good keeper. Average fruit weigh 2 Kg.
It grows best in warmer climates and enriched with a firm bright yellow centre and a dark green/grey outer skin.
Pumpkins have large running vines that bear fruit after the peak of Summer. Pumpkins are harvested when the vine dies and fruit stalk is dry and brittle.
Sow seeds in early Summer in cold regions, throughout spring in warm zones and all year round in subtropical climates. Direct sow into the garden. Place several seeds 2.5cm deep in wide, hollow, saucer shaped depressions 20cm deep. 'Hill up' excavated soil around rim.
Leave 2m between hills and if planted in rows leave 1.5 m around each plant.
Generally all pumpkins are harvested before the frost hits them,
