Capsicum annuum - Capsicum Hungarian Yellow Wax.
This capsicum is a sweet, blocked shaped, capsicum with a lovely mild flavour and long tapered yellow fruit, suitable for all but cold areas.
The fruit are 10 cm long and 10 cm across tapering to a blunt point. They have a sweet, mild waxy flesh that turns from green to yellow at full maturity. The fruit hang down when on the plant.
Sow Capsicum seed .0.5-1cm deep spaced 50-60 cm apart in rows 1.0-1.5 m apart. The soil should be over 18 C. It matures in about 70 days.
Plant into the garden in:
- Tropical areas - Anytime
- Subtropical areas - August to March
- Mild Temperate areas - August to December
- Cold Temperate areas - September to November
In Temperate areas it is best to plant using seedlings prepared a month to six weeks earlier.
Capsicum like alkaline soil and do best in gardens with dolomite or wood-ash added to the soil.
