This soft, lightly savoyed, dark green and russet coloured leafed lettuce has a small and loose reddish purple coloured head.
The leaves have a beautiful flavour and pleasant appearance in salads and sandwiches.
It takes about 7 weeks to reach full maturity. This lettuce will grow best in light shade which produces the sweetest flavour or even in full sun which will produce a richer flavoured leaf.
Sow on the surface in shallow furrows, or cover lightly with vermiculite or sand and keep the surface moist until fully mature.
Plant all year round. A continual sowing fom early Spring to midsummer will ensure a continual crop.
In warmer areas, avoid sowing during very hot weather.
It does well with soil enrichment by adding fresh compost.
Try applying liquid fertiliser to encourage tender, robust growth.
