Cabbage Vertona Purple is a popular, large sized, Central European, winter cabbage with purple colour which is enhanced by cool night-time temperatures.
Its tasty lightly savoyed leaves wrap a solid 3-4kg head that stores well when harvested.
Sow in late summer for winter harvest or autumn for spring harvest. It will mature 90 days from transplant.
Sow August-March in cool and Temperate areas and Feb-Nov in Subtropical and Tropical areas.
Seed is best refrigerated for 10 days prior to planting out when in hot areas.
Cabbages are slow maturing when very young and are best planted indoors in trays so that they can be transplanted out when they are large enough to combat weeds, slugs and snails.
Plant 50-60cm apart in rows 1m apart Cabbages like alkaline soil and rich nutrient loads so keep well limed, manured and watered.
