Pruning Grevilleas
Shrubs - native > Grevillea
I would like to know if anyone can give me some tips on pruning Grevilleas effectively. I have just started a grevillea garden, with a few different varieties but don't know much about pruning them. Thank you.
Hey Sandi, Grevillea can be pruned hard or soft. Tip pruning is good to keep them neat and bushy but heavier pruning every few years can also help improve overall vigour. When they become leggy you can cut them back to around one third of their original height. However, water and fertilise in the weeks before the planned pruning and don't prune in high summer or winter when the plant is likely to stress. Take care when tip pruning Grevilleas like Robyn Gordon as you'll need to watch out for the new flower point at base of old flower. N.B. always fertilise with an Australian Native formulation - Bush tucker is a good one, here's a link to the Garden Shop where you can buy it:- https://www.gardensonline.com.au/Shopping/GardenShop/Show_6325.aspx
