I’ve moved into rental with a fig tree and I would like to pick the figs to eat but there are these bumps all over the leaves and even on a lot of the fruit. Can it be washed off or is it some disease so fruit should not be eaten
Unfortunately your photo was not attached. Figs do suffer with many fungal diseases especially during wet summers with high humidity. You will first notice small spots on the leaves or fruit, these can be brown, yellow or black, as the disease progresses the spots become larger and can be quite sunken also cankers can appear on the stems.
Once the fruit is affected you need to remove and destroy all the diseased fruit and other plant material.
Next year you should spray the tree thoroughly with preventative fungal sprays eg Copper oxychloride just as the buds are forming (Early Budswell). If you leave until later the new growth may damaged by the spray. Make sure you read the directions for use carefully.
