I live in an apartment block around 500m from the sea. My balcony faces north east and gets sun until around 1pm. I want to grow some roses in pots - can anyone recommend a rose that will take just half a days sunshine and lots of salty breezes. ??? Thanks. By the way, I love your site.
Hey Derwent, with so many roses on the market is surprising how many don't suit the salty and windy conditions close to the coast.
However there are a few tougher types, especially Flower Carpet Roses which can be planted in the ground or in pots and will spill over the edges for an attractive display.
Rugos roses and Rugosa hybrids are also well suited to coastal conditions.
You'll be best looking for these on-line as not all nurseries will stock them.
