I would love to grow bannanas in my garden but I believe I live too far south - is it true - do any Sydneyites manage to grow a decent and edible bannana?
Hey Don, you could try a variety called Ladies Finger or Sugar Bananas - its proper botanical name is Musa x acuminata or Musa x paradisica.
Its a bit smaller than some bananas but grows well in cooler climates like Sydney.
Keep it well sheltered though and watch out for birds or possums who will pinch the fruits before they are fully ripe.
They don't produce a huge amount of fruit but it is quite edible, if a bit small.
