Dear Gardeners,
I am new to gardening and have been taking care of a Calamansi plant from seed for a year now. This winter, I had brought it indoors and started noticing that new leaves are yellowing. Been watching YouTube and reading online and came to a conclusion that it does not have sufficient iron. However, after applying some Yates iron chelate about 3 weeks ago (sprayed on leaves). It still looks unhealthy! Thus, am lost on what to do.
Any advice? Note that I do water the plant every time when I see the mulch turn dry.
Leaf yellowing and leaf drop are common occurrences when a plant is brought indoors for winter. So don't worry, it should recover when it gets outside again in spring. You contacted us in winter so adding iron to the soil will not produce quick results as the plant slows down over this period. One thing that might help is to ensure the soil is slightly acid as this will help release the nutrients the plant needs the most.
Don't overwater while indoors over winter, but just keep the soil slightly moist - a wetting agent will help the soil retain moisture without getting waterlogged. P.S. you propagated from seed so this plant will not necessarily stay true to type. The only way to ensure retention of 100% plant characteristics is to propagate from vegetative cuttings.
