We have a small hedge that is dying off? Is there anything I can do to save it as it seems to be moving from plant to plant.
Hi Stuart
It is hard to tell from your photo but it seems that your Buxus hedge is be suffering from a fungal disease possibly Buxus or Box Blight.
Buxus Blight is a major problem, firstly cut away all infect branches (throw away all diseased plant material - don't put in your compost) and then spray the plants with a fungicide like Mancozeb. Buxus responds well to hard pruning.
Buxus is very susceptible to fungal infection especially during and after pruning. Monty Don recommends that you take various precautions before you prune your hedge; prune during a dry spell of at least 3 days, spray with fungicide before and after pruning and sterilise your cutting tools before and after use. Remove and destroy all clippings.
In NSW it is considered a notifiable disease. It is important that you call the Exotic Pest Hotline 1800 084 881 and email biosecurity@dpi.nsw.gov.au along with pictures. Here is a link to the government web page, it will tell you everything you need to know about the problem. https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/biosecurity/plant/insect-pests-and-plant-diseases/buxus-blight
