Hi all, I have an infestation of some sort of black sesame shaped pests under chilli leaves. I suspected they were aphids of some sort, however, as I am new to this I am not sure. I am puzzled as to why they do not move about (ie they stay stationary even as I remove them with my fingers. I am used PestOil and castile soap sprays. As they don't move, or detach themselves/drop dead when I spray them, I am not sure how effective those sprays have been.
Size-wise, they are around 1mm.
Please let me know what they could be.
These sound like blackfly (I have attached a photo of what I think is affecting your plants). If it is this and they keep returning when you squash them with your fingers and the soap sprays are not getting rid of them then its best to spray. Yates Baythroid Advanced is the strongest, though Yates 'Nature's Way' is pyrethrum based which is a naturally occurring substance.
