Aracauria heterophylla is a towering and majestic evergreen tree.
It takes on a natural conical shape and is best suited to very large gardens or as coastal plantings.
The horizontal branches that grow in whorls around a single rounded trunk. The foliage has an upswept appearance. The leaves are small, tapering with a waxy feel and grow in a spiral formation ( almost rope-like) round each branchlet.
As they will tolerate front line salt conditions, salty winds and sandy soils they are a popular choice along most of Sydney's beaches.
They are sold in small pots and used at Christmas Trees. If you have a small garden it is best not to plant these outside as before you know it you will have a very large and unwanted tree in your garden.
