Im fighting an ongoing battle with a 12yr old border collie who either digs up, digs huge holes near or urinates on most of my plants. Any ideas for a solution? Ive tried "keepoff" spray and "Deter" but neither worked.
Have you ever tried using large pebbles as a mulch? This could dissuade your dog as the pebbles won't move easily if he tries to dig. Gravel is also not easy for them to get their claws into and both make useful and effective mulches as they keep weeds at bay as well as the dog.
Otherwise, a really dense ground cover may be the answer - something like a grevillea which has prickly foliage or even a low growing juniper would definitely deter the dog from digging.
There's a paticularly good one that grows quite low and makes a really good ground cover called Juniperus squamata prostrata. See more info on it here from our Plantfinder.
