Dear garden gurus
Is there someone who can help me to identify the pest in the attached photos that is quickly destrpying my Lilly Pilly hedge please?
Thanks
Joh
There was no photo but it would most likely be one of two pests that plague Syzigiums.
#1. White Scale - white domes of wax all over the trunk and branches, probably plenty of sooty mould around as well from the sap seeping out.
#2. Psyllids - small rounded bumps on the leaves indicate psyllids which burrow into the leaf and suck the sap.
Both are common and debilitating.
Richgro Bug Killa is best - but use it only when the plant is not in flower or due to flower in the next six week period. This is because the active ingredient 'imidacloprid' can be harmful to bees and it is taken up by the plant into its sap system and therefore also gets into the flowers where is can be ingested by the bees. Outside of flowering season though it presents no problems.
