Hi there, my Elaeocarpus eumundi – Eumundi Quandong‘s bottom branches are dying. I have 2 and one is doing well but the other is scrawnier with dying lower branches. I probably don't water it enough and would love advice about how much/often. It unfortunately gets trimmed almost in half by the neighbours across the fence once a year (government housing).
Hi Anne
Quandong rainforest plants, they like moist humus rich well drained soil. It grows best full sun and part shade. It is a large tree and needs space to spread. It responds to pruning and can take a hard prune so I don't think it is the pruning that is causing the stress.
The tree is growing very close to the building next door and I wonder it is not getting enough sun and the roots are being restricted.
Water regularly during the warmer months and use sustained release granules in spring.
